My father never sleeps because of his RA and is often shuffling through the night trying to get comfortable. But one night he finally picked up the book and started to read it. Low and behold he started fasting the next day. He was on 20mg and now is down to 7mg. I would definitely recommend this book for someone who is uneducated on the benefits of fasting and just beginning to get their feet wet in the wonders of Intermittent Fasting.

The short of it: the book is interesting, but you're going to get outdated info. All the writing about the subject was so quackish and devoid of any scientific basis that I tried it only out of curiosity and only very cautiously, doing a one or two day fast just to see how it felt. Then in I asked my local health food store if they had any new books on fasting they could order and this was the one they found. Reading it changed my life.
I finally saw that there was a great deal of good, sound data and research on fasting, and Fuhrman explained the principles and realities of fasting in a very well-organized, clearly written way. I proceeded with my first four-day fast and the results were amazing. I had developed a severe peanut allergy that kept me from being able to eat my favorite nut for years, which the fast completely reversed and eliminated. It also unfortunately made it possible to eat some bad foods like Doritos again I had been so allergic to them I couldn't go near them--until after the fast.
I am almost sorry that Fuhrman has become so popular with all his other books and appearances on PBS and the Dr. Oz Show, because he seems to have abandoned any mention of fasting on those shows and in his website , perhaps out of a fear that it will make him less popular or appear kookish to the uninformed.
