With the Internet being readily accessible, pornography is made easily available for the world to view. It is no longer bound within magazines and CDs, but it can be easily downloaded or streamed on personal computers or even mobile devices.

Pornographic material is also made much more graphic, replacing hardcopy images to full online videos and movies. A survey conducted on the younger population of teenagers, aged only between 13 and 15, shows that half among them have been exposed to pornography. A study shows that men significantly consume more pornography than women and consumption patterns are significantly more frequent. Eating, drinking and clothing are still very much the cause of such worries among them. This worrying is precisely the sort of worry Jesus refers to in this passage and the youth are particularly vulnerable to such idolatry. More generally speaking, another pressure that affects most Singaporean youths is the pressure of academic success and affirmation. A Straits Times article reports that seven in ten parents send their children for tuition to improve grades and push them to keep up with other students.

Above all else, trust in God and the spiritual nurturing of the youth is of far greater importance and urgency. While times evolve and Singapore continues to advance, the Christian community must guard the youth against the pressures and idols the world offer and set them right in emplacing their trust, future and lives in God.

God-centered movements begin and Lord willing sustain a relational model which takes precedence over programming and finances. God provides.
